Welcome to Climsoft
A warm welcome to the Climsoft website. We hope you find these pages assist you in installing and using the software.
What is Climsoft?
Climsoft is a software suite for storing climatic data in a secure and flexible manner and for extracting useful information from the data. Climsoft is a free open-source Climate Data Management System (CDMS), licensed under GPL3. It is widely used by the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) of developing Countries.
A Climate Data Management System (CDMS)
is essential. It is a computerised based system, which facilitates the
effective archiving, management, analysis, delivery and use of a wide range of
integrated climate data. It is very critical for the effective, timely
management of climate data and trusted provision of data/information to
stakeholders.
If all other parts of the
data management chain are in place but NOT an effective CDMS, the NMHS cannot
provide climate data/info effectively to stakeholders and this undermines
reputation and engagement
A CDMS is critical to allow data
to be utilised effectively, not just nationally but also regionally and
globally, particularly for understanding climate. It is not paper, or Excel, or
even a standard database e.g. MS Access – requirements for the above are much more
specific (WMO Guidelines 1131).

What can Climsoft do for me?
The Climsoft system is designed for organisations who wish to store historical climatic data in computerised form. These data can be used to produce summary reports, maps or diagrams; or subsets of the data can be extracted for further processing.

What is this website for?
This website is designed to support Climsoft users in setting up and managing their climatic database.

The Climsoft website uses the Moodle platform, which is intended for teaching. It gives us the facilities we need, but you will see the website refers to "courses" and "students".
If you are a Guest on this site, you can view most things, but not contribute to the discussion forums. Please create a profile if you do not already have one. The Login link at the top right will help you do this - please give some information about yourself, so the rest of the Climsoft community can get to know you. Then "Enrol" to Climsoft - in the Administration block (which is usually on the left, but may be inside a tab on the left) click on "Enrol me in this course". This will open an "Enrolment Options" window, where you should click on the button "Enrol me". To check which course you are enrolled in, click on your login name at the top right of any window to view your profile, and the course profile will show the names of all the courses you are enrolled in.
